So Much Going Wrong Inside

A poem by Beverly Stock.

So much going wrong inside,

Self betrayal, I can’t abide.

Just no stopping if and when,

Chills of fear begin again.

So much going on inside,

With eyes closed, I cannot hide.

In myself I cannot see,

How happiness now can be.

On the outside I seem calm.

My smile looks like I’m embalmed.

I’m just lost and unlucky,

Please return my Kit Kat Chunky.

Folds of wafer, chocolate, too

My last bar, I gave to you.

So much going wrong inside,

Remorse I cannot override.

So much going wrong outside,

My lavishness, I now confide,

Has a nasty epilogue,

You shared my Kit Kat with your dog.
